Andy obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Veterinary Medicine in 2002 (Autonomous University of Barcelona), and a Bachelor's Degree in Biochemistry in 2005 (University of Barcelona). After 5 years of experience in veterinary clinics, he then joined the working group of Dr. J.C. Perales in Barcelona (U.B.) for his Ph.D. project. His Ph.D. thesis focused on the role of the mitochondrial PEPCK in gluconeogenesis and cancer. Having been awarded his Ph.D. (Cum Laude) degree (2012), he continued his work in the Perales Lab as a postdoc before he joined the Yuneva Lab at the Francis Crick Institute (London, UK) as a career development fellow of the Medical Research Council (MRC) in September 2013. His work as a postdoctoral researcher focused on the application of genetics and stable isotope-based metabolomics approaches to investigate the metabolism of tumours in vivo, with the aim of finding and testing metabolic targets for therapeutic intervention in cancer. He then joined the University of Barcelona (Physiological Sciences Department) as principal investigator and lecturer in February 2021.
