Our multidisciplinary approach focuses on specific metabolic pathways intersecting the mitochondria and cell signaling in differentiated and tumor/stem cells; specifically, i) we are querying the molecular role of PEPCK-M in insulin secretion, muscle physiology and cancer metabolism, and ii) we are designing, synthesizing and investigating compounds to target genes implicated in cancer metabolism and diabetes, such as PEPCK-M by collaborating with expert chemistry and drug design and development laboratories at our Institution (Dr. Carmen Escolano and Dr. Javier Luque).
